During a commercial airline fligh, I was seated next to a young mother with a babe in arms. When the baby began crying during the descent for landing, the mother began nursing the infant as discreetly as possible.

As well as working in an office, I am also a pilot and have seen everything, therefore, I pretended not to notice, and, upon disembarking, I offered my assistance to help with the various baby-related items.

When the young mother expressed her gratitude, I said, "Gosh, that's a good looking baby, and he sure was hungry!"

Somewhat embarrassed, the mother explained that her pediatrician said that the time spent on the breast would help alleviate the pressure in the baby's ears.

I shook my head, and in true pilot fashion exclaimed, "And all these years, I've been chewing gum."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/17737135
there have been reports of a Jetstar pilot aborting a landing at 392 feet because he forgot to lower the main landing gear. Doesn;t sound too bad until you learn it was because he was texting and despite finishing on his phone at 1000 feet, he "forgot" how to lower the gear... these are the people trusted with the lives of 220 others

"The FAA lost contact with a Cessna 421 shortly before 9AM this morning. The pilot, it turns out, was unconscious, and the plane ultimately slammed into the Gulf of Mexico 135 miles off shore."

"It's unclear if anybody besides the unconscious pilot was onboard the plane, but the Coast Guard is currently conducting a search and rescue operation of the area hoping to find any survivors. "
